Innovator Florida Baptist Association Tallahassee, Florida Baptist Association www.floridabaptistassociation.org JULY 2010
Inter-Mission with David David Southerland
Your prayers are needed for the Southern Baptist Convention’s decisions that will have been made by the time you receive this newsletter. I foresee change. Please pray! July promises to be a key month in the life of our Association. Your prayers are needed:
1. July 12-16, Project Big Bend, involving 120 participants who will be in groups of 12-15 to paint or do general cleanup of the houses of people in need as well as sharing with them the Gospel of our Lord and presenting them with a Bible. They will be staying on the campus of North Florida Baptist Church and will participate in worship and fellowship.
2. July 24, 10:00 – 11:30 am, we shall feature “Building a Caring Community,” a Sunday School Conference at East Hill Baptist Church, providing five workshops for teachers and other ministry leaders. See the insert in this edition of the Innovator for further information. Blessings upon you.
Our Faith (The Baptist Faith and Message) “Christ’s people should organize such associations and conventions as may secure cooperation for the great objects of the Kingdom of God. Such organizations have no authority over one another or over the churches. Cooperation is desirable between the various Christian denominations. ‘It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelist, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ...’ Ephesians 4:11-12...” If you would like more information on Southern Baptists and The Baptist Faith and Message, please visit www.sbc.net; you’ll find important information available to print.
A special thanks from Pastor, Mark Mercer, First Baptist Church, Carrabelle, “Oyster Relief,” for the churches in our Association that have contributed financially.

BCM NEWS Please help us welcome Lance Beauchamp, our new FSU BCM Director. Lance is coming to us from the BCM at University of North Florida, Jacksonville. We look forward to Lance and his wife Tiffany coming to Tallahassee.
Areas you can partner with the FSU BCM:
1. Furniture Drive for International Students - Friends of Internationals has an annual furniture drive every August where we give away new and used furniture to incoming international students at Florida State University. Around 100 students receive furniture from us every year. We are trying to get a head start on finding furniture in the Tallahassee area. If you would like to donate, please contact Matthew Gille at (850)222-4444 and we would be glad to come by and pick it up. We have had televisions, beds, couches, recliners, bicycles, chests, bookshelves, desks, carpets, silverware, cups, plates, and all kitchen supplies donated in years past. We would gladly accept any type of donation.
2. Edge Café - one of the biggest ways many of you partner with us is by providing food for our Edge Café on Thursdays. This is a way we can bring about 180+ students into a Christian environment to eat a meal for $1 and fellowship with one another. The dollar only helps to cover our cost of paper goods for Edge. We also like for the ‘host’ church to take about five minutes to introduce your church and invite our students to come and fellowship with you. Please contact Pam at (850) 222-4444 to schedule a date for your church. If you are a small church and don’t feel you can do this by yourself please partner with another church. Also, our TCC BCM furnishes lunch for about 30-40 students on Wednesdays at noon if you would also like to help them by furnishing lunch. We can also schedule those for you.
3. SnoCone Give Away – on Saturday, August 21, 2010 we will have students stationed in front as many dorms as possible giving away sno cones. We need college pastors to please bring ice from your church so we can give away lots of sno cones. We also need college pastors to help us as runners delivering ice and sno cone supplies to each station. Please let us know if we can count on you for ice and as a runner.
4. Church Ministry Fair – Tuesday, August 24, 2010 will be our first Fall Encounter. We will be meeting at Moore Auditorium this semester. Following this Encounter will be our Church Ministry Fair where you will have an opportunity to set up a table for our students to see information about your church. You will need to let us know if you plan to come and set up a table. We will only ask FSU to set up the number of tables we have reservations for.
5. Survival - The purpose of freshmen survival is to help new students as well as transfer students the opportunity to gain the best start possible as they enter Florida State University. In addition to talking about how to get along with a roommate, teaching them study skills and how to get to where they need to be there’s a concentrated effort to teach students to live out their faith during their college experience. Survival began here at FSU in 1996. We get students plugged into the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and see lives transformed. We will give each student a bag of goodies and information. If you would like for us to put information from your church into these bags we will need the information from you by Wednesday, August 18, 2010. Please bring enough for 75 bags. Also, you may want to update your church information we have on display at this time.
6. Progressive Dinner - Each Fall we do a progressive dinner with our new freshmen and transfer students to six different churches in Tallahassee. We have already had several churches contact us about being part of this dinner. I know we will not be able to go to all of you but if your church would like to be a part of this progressive dinner please contact Pam at 222-4444 and we will see what we can do.
7. Ways the BCM can partner with your church: - Leadership for Disciple Nows - Drama’s by Heart’s Cry - Undivided (singing ensemble) - Transition Days - If you set aside a time our students can come and talk with your Junior and Senior High Students about college life - Missions - If you need a student someone to talk about their involvement in missions - Help with projects, servers, or helpers for babysitting
Again, thank you for your partnership with us through your prayers, gifts, time, food, etc. Words never seem to be enough.
