Inter-Mission with David

I first became aware of Associational Missions in 1964 as a nineteen year old part time pastor of a  Mississippi Delta Baptist Church. At first I was “suspicious.” “I don’t need a Bishop”, I thought. Such is youth. That dear Associational Missionary was a good friend in ministry to me and my church, and his ministry left a lasting impression on me. I was a better Pastor because of him. My church was a stronger church. Even more important to my development was the friendship that he helped engender between me and the older pastors within the Association.

As years went by I always tried to be a good Pastor/friend to my association’s Director of Missions. Once I needed him; now, I thought, he needs me. It was part of my ministry in larger churches to see to it that my church supported our association financially, with prayer, and my attendance. I wanted other pastors to experience the friendship and guidance of an Association Director and the benefits of training, fellowship and missions outreach that only an Association of Churches can offer.

May the Lord bless you, your church, and our association as we continue to grow in every way, together!

NEW MEMBER TRAINING

It used to be that when someone joined your church they already had some basic Bible and church knowledge because they grew up attending a church.

It isn’t safe to assume that anymore. Some of our church members have never read the Bible all the way through, they don’t know what the Bible says about the Christian life, and they don’t feel comfortable trying to explain what it means to be a Christian to someone else.

A New Member Class can provide part of the solution. New Member Classes can help people get to know the staff, the basic teachings of the Bible, the vision and goals of your church, and a little bit about your ministries.  In a relaxed atmosphere, new members may feel comfortable enough to ask the questions they have been dying to ask. After spending several hours or weeks together, new friendships will often be formed. Finally, this kind of class is a prime opportunity to help people get connected into small groups. If your church needs more information about resources for new member training, please contact the Association at 877-7600.

Tallahassee Mission Project - Churches and Volunteers needed!

World Changers are Coming...Are You Ready?

June 8-13, 2008

WORLD CHANGERS are coming to the Florida Baptist Association the week of June 8-13, 2008. We are privileged to have this group work with us. Not only will the residents whose homes will be repaired and the young people who are coming be blessed, but we also will be blessed sharing in this mission work.

Ways for your church to be directly involved in this mission project

1. Churches to host crews by providing lunch on Sunday - Friday

2. Volunteers to be runners and/or supervisors (Must be 18 or older)

3. If you are good with tools and handiwork you may be a candidate to serve as a crew chief or supervisor (Must be 21 or older)

4. A prayer coordinator from each church to prayer-walk your Job site

5. On-site first aid person (First Aid and CPR certified)

6. Doctor on call (Not needed on-site)

7. We will need to borrow several ladders

8. Volunteers to record local newscasts involving World Changers

Results from last year

World Changers has been an active ministry of the North American Mission Board since 1990.

  • Last year there were 62 projects with 22,346 participants involved.

  • 7,301 people had the gospel presented to them and this resulted in 762 professions of faith

  • In our community last year there were 20 salvations, 7 recommitments, 240 presentations of the gospel, 286 participants and 24 project worksites.
