Association Missions Week of Prayer
May 18-24

The Florida Baptist Association was established in 1843, the first Association

in Florida, and now has 55 churches in four counties. We have planted 14 churches

in a little over 10 years. Every year our member churches partner together

as an Association to provide mission projects like World Changers, disaster relief,

small group and discipleship conferences, training for pastor search committees,

pulpit supply, interim pastor training, supporting new church plants and

financial support to Baptist Campus ministries.

Inter-Mission with David

“A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the Deep Creek Store, but could not find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, “Do these turkeys get bigger?” The stock boy replied, “No Ma’am, they’re dead.”

The above is a light hearted example of what one might find in a church newsletter. In that same Newsletter, in the latter part of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church Pastor’s article, in summary of the third and fourth chapters of Jesus’ ministry, he wrote: “When the crowds sought to dissuade Him, He was undaunted. When the spirit descended, He delivered. When the truth hurt, He was unashamed. When the morning came, He prayed!” (Pastor Brian Mimbs) Now you can see one reason why I always enjoy reading your church’s newsletters, either delivered by the post office or online. Please put me on your mailing list. Thanks.

May 18 starts Association Missions Week. This is the first time our Association has asked her 55 member churches to promote it in a way of their choosing during that week. Pastors have received an alert that a DVD and other suggestions will be sent out soon after they receive this edition of the Innovator. (By the way, the DVD is less than two minutes in duration.) Thank you in advance for your help!

We covet your prayers these next few months heading into summer, as your Association will be heavily involved in missions – the expected and the unexpected. At the same time, we should be operating under a new set of Bylaws that would help us serve you more efficiently. Our mission will remain constant: “From the capitol to the coast we are helping strengthen existing churches while planting new churches.”

I was trying to think of a way to properly thank you for 15 years as your Director as of December 1. The best thing I can probably say is that it is still an absolute joy to be with you and again reminds me of how “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” You are loved.

Many thanks are in order to those of you who met with members of our Constitution and Bylaws Revision group on five different occasions, and at five separate locations. Your suggestions strongly influenced the final draft. The final draft of the suggested Constitution and Bylaws Revision will be presented for vote, with no discussion, during the May 15 Executive Committee Meeting.

The meeting will be at Forest Heights Baptist Church, fellowship at 10:00am and meeting time at 10:30am. Lunch will be after the meeting.

World Changers and other Mission Projects
Every Sunday David and I are in one of our Association churches, sometimes preaching and sometimes just enjoying the fellowship and worship. It is so exciting to hear pastors each Sunday talking about the local mission projects that their churches are involved in. Working together we can make a big impact and change lives. Thank you for helping with our World Changers construction project which will involve over 100 Southern Baptist students coming to Tallahassee to do construction and repair work for low income families. At the same time these students will share the gospel in each neighborhood. Last year, 20 people made a decision to trust Christ.

Church-Planting Update
NEW BEGINNINGS

On Wednesday night, the church has a small group which meets in the pastor’s home at 7:00 pm. Registration Fee $10 per person • During the morning, they may choose to get additional training in their primary ministry area in a specialized class or they may participate in our Spiritual Care class. • Volunteers that are interested in being trained for water purification will attend an all day class that is only open to returning volunteers. • After lunch, they may choose to attend another ministry area class to receive training in another specialty thus expanding their ability to minister.

Quick FAQs
Who should attend this training?

(1) Anyone who wants to become a new volunteer in the Florida Baptist Disaster Ministry or (2) Any previously trained volunteer who wants additional training or needs to retrain. (Volunteers must retrain every 3 years)

Why do I have to be trained to be a volunteer?

Emergency Management Officials now require all volunteers to be credentialed by an organization like ours before they are allowed to work in a disaster response area. Our training is designed to meet these requirements and prepare volunteers to do effective ministry when called upon.

How do I register?

There is no pre-registration. Register at the event site between 8:30 AM & 9:00 AM the day of the event.
